Asanuma project camera – more planning

The camera today, fully assembled with the newly-minted plate back:

Now, I have to decide how to proceed: What wood to use for the spring back? Make a tripod mount in a separate base plate, or remove the spider and fill in the hole with a mahogany roundel? I just found a perfect piece of mahogany for the roundel – wide enough that it can be cut in a single piece, and of such a thickness that not much planing would be necessary to get it to final thickness. With the spring back, I’d planned on using some nice, straight-grained black walnut, but I just found a piece of beautiful cherry that would age wonderfully.

Decisions, decisions…
